Note to Non-JUPAS applicants: The Direct Admission Scheme to Senior Year Places is inapplicable to the School’s English Studies Major and Minor Programme. Non-JUPAS applicants are welcome to start their academic journey with us from Year 1 at HKU.
Admission Requirement to Courses Offered by the School of English
A minimum Level 5 in English Language HKDSE exam, or an equivalent score in another recognized English proficiency test. Non-JUPAS candidates are required to submit a copy of your equivalent qualification(s), such as the IB Diploma, GCE-A Levels, SAT, IELTS, TOEFL, etc., to the School Office (via this form: HKU School of English: English Proficiency Test Submission) for consideration two weeks before the course selection period.

Declaration of Majors and Minors
For Year 1 Students
Year 1 is a year of exploration for HKU freshmen. Prospective major and minor students are advised to take at least one List A introductory course in Year 1 in order to be eligible for declaring a major / minor in Year 2.
For Non-BA Students
Non-BA students from other disciplines are also welcome to become our major and minor students.
