Enacted Narratives

Abstract

In recent years narratologists have become increasingly aware of ways of telling stories that do not correspond to a narrow definition of narrative. Diverse phenomena such as ballets, games, buildings, gardens and lifes are now taken to tell stories. These ‚embodied‘ narratives challenge classical narratological concepts of narrator, reader, story etc. They force us to reconsider the nature of narrative and the scope of narratology. In my talk I discuss current definitions of narrative and propose a conceptual framework that encompasses traditional as well as embodied varieties of storytelling.
