SUMMARY:Innovative Feedback for Creative Disciplines: Developing a Multi-Modal Peer Critique Tool for Higher Education
DESCRIPTION:Kan Chi Poon –  Assistant Lecturer\, The University of Hong Kong (https://english.hku.hk/people/Faculty/307/Ms_Kan_Chi_Poon) \nTHIS IS AN IN-PERSON ONLY EVENT. \nAbstract\nThis presentation introduces the CAS Form (Care–All–Shape)\, an emerging peer feedback tool developed through practice in creative and communication-focused contexts. The CAS Form invites students to combine quick checks\, short takeaway words\, and a visual or diagrammatic response\, making feedback more tangible and engaging than traditional evaluation sheets. While designed for creative subjects\, its simple format adapts well to reflective writing and artist statements\, supporting students as they articulate ideas about their own and others’ work. Early use in design and exhibition courses suggests that students respond more actively when given space for visual and multi-modal feedback. \nThe session will outline the tool’s development\, classroom applications\, and student responses\, and invite discussion on adapting CAS for wider use. Participants will also have the opportunity to try the form themselves and consider how it might support reflective practice in their own teaching. \n ||  \nBiography\nKan Chi Poon is an educator and creative practitioner whose work is grounded in fine art practice while spanning contemporary art and exhibition practices. She sees art not only as solitary creation but as communication\, where peer feedback plays a vital role in shaping dialogue and insight. To support this process\, she developed the CAS Form\, a platform that makes feedback concrete\, reciprocal\, and constructive through both words and visual expression. At the School\, she is an Assistant Lecturer in Master of Arts in the field of Creative Communications (MACC)\, teaching exhibition\, installation\, and aesthetics\, and encouraging peers to “think like artists” through transformation\, transmodal traces\, and creative practice.

Goddess Complex\, released in March of 2025\, was named a top anticipated book of the year by TIME and has been named a New York Times Editor’s Choice. Gold Diggers was named a Top 10 Best Book of 2021 by the Washington Post and longlisted for the Center for Fiction’s First Novel Prize. Sanjena’s short fiction appears in The Best American Short Stories\, The Atlantic\, One Story\, and more. SUMMARY:Corrective Language and Neo-Homophobia
DESCRIPTION:Vincent Pak –  Assistant Lecturer\, The University of Hong Kong (https://english.hku.hk/people/Affiliates/321/Dr_Vincent_Pak) \nTHIS IS AN IN-PERSON ONLY EVENT. \nAbstract\nIn societies where explicit homophobic discourses are met with pushback\, they must evolve to eschew mainstream criticism. They recently arrived\, in the case of Singapore\, as religionbased discourses that carry logics of change and transformation\, now observable as neohomophobia. These discourses coax change through the Christian idea of metanoia – spiritual transformation – that encourages an individualised transformation of the self. \nThis talk considers how language\, specifically discourse\, can be deployed as a corrective for nonnormative sexualities. Discourses in three forms – multimodal\, narrative\, and metapragmatic – are analyzed to demonstrate how correction can be achieved without relying on traditional modes of animus. Stories of ex-gay Christians\, circulated by a young\, non-denominational organization in Singapore\, are examined for their audiovisual and narrative qualities\, and ethnographic interviews conducted with religious queer individuals in Singapore evince language as a powerful technology for correction. \n ||  \nBiography\nVincent Pak is a sociocultural linguist at The University of Hong Kong\, working in the fields of gender\, sexuality\, and race. His work intersects with linguistic anthropology and discourse studies\, and his monograph\, Queer Correctives\, was recently published with Bloomsbury Academic. His articles can also be found in journals such as Journal of Sociolinguistics\, Language in Society\, and Signs and Society.
